Half wavelength

The distance between two adjacent antinodes.

For a prismatic medium or plane wave, the half wavelength is related to the wave speed and the frequency by —

\begin{align} \label{eq:12801a} \Gamma = \frac{C}{2 \, f} \end{align}

where —

\( \Gamma \) = half-wavelength at the specified frequency
\( C \) = wave speed
\( f \) = frequency

For a shaped medium the half wavelength depends on the shape. The resulting half wavelength can be either longer or shorter than the thin-wire half wavelength.
